General Update July 31, 2020
Posted On: Jul 31, 2020

Keeping with the name of the page "In Short.....What is going one!"

OSP MRT/SWAT have taken over security of the Mark O. Hatfield Federal Justice Building in Portland during the nightly riots. Hopefully their presence and discipline will bring the riots to a stop, so we can all try to return to normal, however that might be during these COVID-19 times.

OSPOA is getting ready for the upcoming election for President, Secretary and all Region Representatives. We are doing this by getting as many members registered on the website as possible so they can vote. Voting through the website is secure, and everyone can see the results at the same time. Anyone is able to see who voted, but not how they voted. This is leading us to a more transparent OSPOA.

It is my understanding Brian Fitch as VP played a significant role in building the framework of the website. My goal as VP was to make the website full operational and use it to its full ability. We are tracking grievance, holding elections and giving updates. We have over 80% of the membership active on the website!

We are updating documents on then website, making sure the new CBA and Constitution are readily available. I want the website and app to be your first stop and clearinghouse of information for OSPOA.

SGT Yvette Sheppard and I met with Constantine Sever, the Governors Public Safety Advisor. We asked him for an exemption to the mask Executive Order for official law enforcement actives. His office will work on something. We also expressed our wish for the riots to stop and he expressed his gratitude to the Troopers who are now out of their assigned areas and helping in Portland. During this call we expressed our concerns with some of the Legislative Concepts being floated about for the 2nd Special legislative session which could happen sometime in August.

We will continue to meet with him and legislators about this concepts.

I know this isn't a short message, but there is an update on what is going on!

Josh W.
